Fight or fly
When our bodies are in a state of stress, adrenaline and cortisol are produced to give us the ability to fly or fight. Certainly lifesaving in certain situations. However, a constant trickle of these hormones can have devastating effects on the body. Feelings of anxiety are triggered. The heart beats faster, we feel short of breath, aches and pains develop as muscles go into spasm, especially around the neck and head. Headaches become a normal part of life.
When we are triggered emotionally, these same hormones are released. For instance enduring pressures of work, relationship breakdowns, bereavement as well as day to day niggles like a traffic jam or your child not wanting the delicious food you have just prepared!
Having had the privilege of caring for many people throughout my career I have learnt that caring for ourselves is of the utmost importance. We cannot avoid stress, it is part of life at the end of the day, but we can give ourselves the tools to deal with stress and anxiety. Taking time out for ourselves, reducing the stress hormones and replacing them with the natural ‘feel good’ hormones like serotonin and endorphins.
The therapies I offer simply put the body in a state of restoration and repair ~ in a natural and medication free way.
